4. **Setting:** Apply force via the punch. The punch causes the hollow end of the rivet to flare out and form a **second head (clinch)**, mechanically locking the materials together. The force must be controlled to fill the die without cracking the material.
5. **Inspection:** A properly set rivet will have a formed head that is symmetrical and approximately 1.5 times the shank diameter, with the original flat head sitting perfectly flush.
